Privacy Policy
The short version: Chalkwork does not collect, store or share any personal information. There is no account, no advertising and no tracking. Your boards stay on your device, or in your own iCloud if you turn that on.
This policy covers the Chalkwork app for iPad and iPhone, made by Listening Beard Productions (“we”). It is separate from the policy for our other app, Pax. If you have a question, write to hello@listeningbeard.com.
What we collect
Nothing. Chalkwork has no sign-in and does not send information about you or your use of the app to us or to anyone else. It contains no analytics, advertising or tracking software, and it does not track you across other apps or websites. We run no servers that the app talks to.
What stays on your device
To work, Chalkwork keeps these on your device:
- your boards: chalk lines, words, shapes, pinned notes and photos, and any narration you record;
- lessons, templates, kept copies of wiped boards and other things you make;
- your settings, such as the board look and chalk wear, and a class list if you type one into Names.
None of this is sent to us. Like other app data, it may be included in your device’s backups to iCloud or to a computer, which Apple handles under your own backup settings. Deleting the app deletes it.
iCloud
If you choose Keep boards in iCloud Drive, your boards are stored in your own iCloud Drive and sync between your devices through Apple. We cannot see them. You can turn this off at any time.
Shared boards
If you invite someone to a board, Chalkwork uses Apple’s CloudKit sharing: the board is kept in your iCloud and shared with the people you invite, using the link you send them. Apple carries it; we do not see it. People you invite can draw on that board and see what is on it.
Microphone, camera and photos
- Microphone: only when you record narration over a replay. The recording stays on your device, in the board it belongs to, unless you share a video.
- Photos: Chalkwork asks permission only to save a picture of your board to Photos. Photos you pick to put on a board or to trace are used on your device only.
- Reading handwriting and finding words on a board: done on your device with Apple’s own tools. Nothing is uploaded.
Widgets
Chalkwork’s widgets show a picture of a board. They read it from storage shared only between the app and its widgets on the same device.
Purchases
The Pro and Classroom purchases are sold through Apple’s App Store. Apple handles the payment and tells the app only what has been purchased on your Apple Account. We never see your name, email address or payment details. Apple’s handling is described in Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Links and sharing
Chalkwork connects to the internet only to use your iCloud and when you tap a link. The About screen links to our other app on the App Store and to this website, which open in your browser, where those sites’ own policies apply. When you share a picture, PDF or video of a board, it goes wherever you send it through the share sheet; Chalkwork does not see or keep a copy.
Children
Chalkwork is suitable for all ages and collects no information from anyone, including children under 13. It is not directed only at children, and the purchase and link screens are meant for a parent or teacher.
Changes to this policy
If Chalkwork ever changes how it handles information, we will update this page and the date above before the change reaches the app.
